all about me
My name is Dawn. I live in Western NY with my husband and two little girls. I've been staying at home since my first daughter was born in 2003; before that I dabbled around in the Information Technology field. I also did a short stint in a doctor's office, and I was cured of any desire to keep working in that field. Nyuk nyuk.
I've been on the internet a long time. I got started in basement labs in college, posting on bulletin boards, surfing the web with Lynx, and getting around via telnet and IRC (word, #vampires!) I met my current husband on a MOO. I had my first (blinky, noisy) webpage in 1994. I was a relative latecomer to blogging, starting in 2002. My previous blogs were Bizarrogirl, Poisoning the Sea, and Better than a Monkey, all of which are now offline but are probably archived somewhere to come back and haunt me later.
I'm very interested in science, biology, evolution, and why people do what they do. I want to go back to school and become a mad scientist when I grow up. I'm a research fiend and a compulsive writer. That's why I blog. I just can't help myself. I do lots of uncontrolled experiments, especially when it comes to household management and personal care. I'll try anything once. And then I'll write about it approximately 167 times.
Lately, as my kids are starting to get old enough to not need me 24/7, I've taken up some new active hobbies and sports to wrangle myself into fighting shape, and I write about those, too.
I also enjoy profuse sarcasm and general humor, and apply the former heavily to my writing. (Not sure about the latter; I sure amuse myself, anyway.) Some of the other topics I follow and write about are Attention Deficit Disorder, pregnancy and birth advocacy, parent advocacy, mental health issues, and science news.
Comment, send me email, a carrier pigeon, knock rocks together underwater ... whatever. I <3 feedback.
